Spooky Series

Now that we’re solidly in September, we’re in what I consider the beginnings of Spooky Season, aka Halloweentide. One of our favorite things to do is watch ghost hunting show and usually make fun of them while we watch. Will is really good at that part. Our jokes are always at the expense of the living on the show and never the victims of whatever happened at those particular locations.

Lately, the show we’ve been watching has had us so engrossed in what’s going on, we don’t have time to crack jokes. The show is Destination Fear, and wow has it been a ride.

The first thing I love about this show is that it’s a small group of childhood friends: brother and sister Dakota and Chelsea, and their friends Tanner and Alex. Dakota mentions in the intro to the show that their family was terrorized by paranormal activity while they grew up, and both Alex and Tanner had experiences when over at Dakota and Chelsea’s house.

Chelsea says in one episode that things got so bad, she woke up one night to police in her room telling her she needed to get up and get out of the house so they could check to see if there was an intruder in the house. Apparently her younger sister had seen someone in their house and their parents called 911, but there was no one found besides the family members. They say most people brush it off as childhood imagination, but they know it’s real because their parents experienced it, too.

I also like how authentic they are. Yes, it’s a ghost hunt show and it could all be a bunch of hooey, but it’s nice to see a show where they aren’t over the top and screaming at the ghosts all the time. No one is an overly macho, aggressive, head-to-toe wearing Ed Hardy gear kind of person. They’re all friends and they all care about each other, even if Chelsea is annoyed with Dakota.

It’s not all ghosts and spooky, scary things. They have some fun on this road trip, stopping at Niagara Falls, a county fair, and Lookout Mountain (an overlook where you can see seven states all at once) to name some of the fun things that happen. There’s also some not-so-fun things that happen, like cleaning out the RV toilet tank, as well as the RV starting to come apart while they’re on the highway.

We’ve watched all of the first season and we’re ready to start the second. I’m looking forward to it, because we never really know what to expect on this show. It’s a great way to kick off the best season of the year!
