Goals

Good morning, everyone! I hope you all managed to make it through this week, and what a week it was. Yeesh. I was glad a coworker had a birthday on Wednesday and someone sent her cookies to share, because that day was difficult.

For some reason, we humans decided the new year was the best time to set goals and start big life changes. Even though it probably does more harm than good, I made some myself this year.

Goal 1: Lose Weight

Yes, yes, I know, boring. Blah. Overdone. But, I genuinely am working on this one, and it really does need to happen, for my own health and happiness. We’re going to start phasing into the Mediterranean Diet, which was once again named the best diet overall by doctors and nutritionists.

Now. Before we go any further, I want to say diet culture is super toxic and that crap needs to die, like years ago. The difference between this and diet culture is that 1. it’s doctor approved, 2. it’s more about what you eat, not how much you eat, and 3. it tells you not to count calories, but to listen to your body and only eat when you’re hungry.

I’m trying to track down barley flower so I can make barley rusks with my fancy new stand mixer with a dough hook. We went shopping Friday night for groceries, and it really looked like the healthiest cart I’ve had in a very long time. I was really excited to find a big container of pomegranate seeds for me to mix into my Greek yogurt and honey for breakfasts.

We also got a treadmill for Christmas, which Will has used religiously every morning before work. I, on the other hand, haven’t used it yet, but I am proud I haven’t hung clothes on it…yet.

Goal 2: Learn to knit and crochet

So let me tell you a story. Once, I went to the craft store and decided I was going to buy yarn, needles, hooks, and books on how to crochet and knit. I figured it would be something to pass the time while I sat and watched a show or something.

That was eight years ago. I still have that yarn and those needles. Guess what I didn’t do.

I think I got frustrated that I wasn’t naturally good at it? It all came out lumpy and uneven and I didn’t like it. Whatever happened, I stopped. I’ve picked them up every now and then and had to start all over, but I never stuck with it. Here’s hoping I finally get it learned and don’t give up!

Goal 3: Get my dang books done!

I’m currently working on rewriting the two books I have full drafts of, after months of not touching them. So far, things are actually going really well. I was very daunted by my idea, which is forcing me to almost rewrite the whole thing, but I forced myself to just sit down and do it. I also really want to get my short story anthology wrapped up and out this year, though I don’t know if that’s plausible, given how much work is left. The year is still young, though, so we’ll just have to see!

That’s it for my goals. They aren’t very glamorous, but they’re mine. What are your goals for this year? Let me know in the comments, or send me a message! I’ll make sure to keep you updated throughout the year, too!
