Garden Update

Happy Saturday, folks! We’re halfway through May (somehow), and we’re getting warmer every day. You might remember I wanted to get into gardening for my birthday. My husband got me a portable greenhouse and a book on gardening as a gift, which is lovely, and one of my friends gave me gloves and a watering can! I decided to treat myself to two herb plants from the grocery store. That way it’s something I could use in my kitchen, but if I ended up killing it, it wouldn’t have been that expensive a mistake. Well, let’s just take a look here…

Whoops.

The top picture is the day I got them. The bottom picture is from yesterday. I get the feeling Mr. Potato Head is about to start screaming about how I’m a murderer.

“Murderer! You murdering dog!”

I tried. The instructions with the plants said water at least once a week, which I did! I felt the soil first to see if they needed to be watered, too, and I’m fairly certain I didn’t overwater. Now, the greenhouse fell over a couple times in storms before I discovered I could zip tie it to the railing of our balcony. Maybe that was part of the problem?

I’m not going to give up, though. I feel bad I killed these plants before I could use either of them, but it’s a learning process. I didn’t just forget about them or leave them to their own devices, but I have a lot to learn.

If you have any ideas (plant CPR? fountain of youth? necromancy?), I’m all ears. Otherwise, these plants are going to plant Valhalla.

  1. It’s been really hot lately. Maybe too hot to be in the greenhouse? Your mom has a brown thumb, your dad has a green thumb. You have two thumbs—work on developing the green one you inherited!
