Marathon Preparation

On Friday, I start a new book.

Whoo, that is kind of freaky to admit. On Friday, I start this year’s NaNoWriMo competition, which is how I wrote my first book. I won’t lie to you, I’m very nervous. There wasn’t that much pressure last year. I hadn’t started this blog, I hadn’t started writing to be serious and try to make a career out of it yet. It was still a “someday it might be fun” thought in my mind.

I’ll provide updates on my Facebook page and maybe twitter (if I remember), so make sure to find those links at the top and follow me. I would love some cheerleaders, so please feel free to leave comments and/or message me. I definitely respond, so don’t think you’re wasting my time. I love hearing from all of you!

This year’s book has a working title of “Lady of the Lake,” and it’s a followup to book one, which was what I wrote this year. It follows the character Gabe and his wife Thalia as they visit his family for the first time since he entered into sobriety. When his teenage niece’s friends begin to go missing, fingers are pointed at Gabe, and he has to prove his innocence. At the same time, the town’s famous local specter has been making more frequent appearances. Are they connected? Gabe will have to find out.

I’m really looking forward to writing this, but terrified that I won’t hit 50,000 words in November. That said, if I don’t hit 50,000 words in November, that’s ok. Or I’m at least saying it is now. Please understand if I’m upset. This is a difficult thing to do, and I push myself hard and hold myself to high standards when it comes to writing.

I’ll be hitting up a local cafe for cups of tea and slices of cake or cookies to reward myself. I’ll probably listen to the De-Lovely soundtrack on repeat again, unless that’s the wrong album for this book. I’m excited for the challenge, and I can’t wait to see where things go.

Wish me luck!
