This month is the second session of Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’m finishing my first draft of my book. So far, I’m on track to finish my first draft this month, and I’m really, truly excited!
I’ve never finished a book before. I’ve written plenty, but I’ve never been able to finish. I’ll get an idea for a project, and I’ll start off strong, but then I’ll stop for whatever reason or another, and it never gets done. It’s really irked me, and the fact that I’ve done this is nothing short of a miracle to myself.
Once I’m done with this draft, I’ll probably take a break from it for a bit, maybe a week or two. Then I’ll go through with a pen on a print copy and work on editing. After a couple edits, I’ll ask some people to do some test reads and suggest edits. A few more rewrites, and I think I’ll be able to stick a fork in it and say it’s done.
However, now that we’re going into the latter part of the year, it’s time to start planning. November is coming, so that means NaNoWriMo is, too!
I’ll be honest, I’ve never planned out a story. I usually have a general sense of what I’m looking to do. I’m very much what we call a pantser–I fly by the seat of my pants. Sometimes, it’s great. If a moment is supposed to have spontaneity, I feel my writing is more genuine. However, I wonder sometimes if I have worse writer’s block when I do this. I’m going to try planning things out for November, and we’ll see how it goes.
I’m not sure yet what project I’m going to do. It may be the follow up to what I’m writing now, or it might be something completely different. The only rule is that I can’t have written anything for it already, so we’ll see how things go. I know for a fact what it will NOT be, and it’s a project that would probably be my most extensive work I’ll ever create. All I’m going to say about it is that it’s related to the Arthurian legends, and I’ve got SO much research to do! If you know any great resources, send them my way. I have both translations of Le Morte d’Arthur, Monmouth’s History of the Kings of Britain, as well as a few other books that are related and I look forward to reading.
Oh, and if you’ve gone to my Facebook or Twitter pages, you’ll notice I’ve done a little redecorating! When I started this blog, I wanted it to be somewhere you could come and read, relax, and escape your problems for a little bit. I’m 100% serious when I say that if you click that Contact Me button at the top and send me a message, I will respond. The message could be anything, from “I liked your post” to any problems you may have. I’m here to be a friend. I’m here to listen. There’s always room at the table.

Well, I guess that’s enough of that. Time to get back to work. This book isn’t going to write itself, as I’ve discovered. Time to find out what comes next!
Have any great ideas for me? Let me know by clicking Contact Me up at the top!

I STILL haven’t convinced you of the value of an outline???
