Happy Saturday! Here at A Cup of Tea and a Pen for Me, you’ve heard me talk a lot about my husband. There’s another member of this team I don’t talk about nearly as much.
Meet Hermes.

Hermes is a pretty special little guy. We aren’t entirely sure where he came from. When he was a kitten, he wandered up onto my parents’ back patio on a cold February evening, right before an ice storm. My parents have never been fond of cats, but they took pity on him, letting him in, feeding him some cheese, taking a picture, and sending an email to the HOA saying “please come get your cat.”
No one claimed him. Based on his mannerisms, we could tell he wasn’t feral and had been a pet. Judging by his age when he was found, he was most likely someone’s Christmas present. Either he got out, or someone threw him out. Either way, I’m incredibly lucky to have him.

When I named him Hermes, I thought it would be a cute name for a cat who caused mischief. I couldn’t explain it, but he just felt like a Hermes, after the Greek trickster god. I realized how spot-on that name was as time went on. He steals small items (pens, hair ties, even stuffed animals!), gets into places he shouldn’t, hides and jumps out at you, and just causes general pandemonium. He definitely keeps life interesting!

He definitely loves to be involved and “help.”
He “helps” me read…

…and write…

…and makes sure I’m resting and taking care of myself.

At the end of the day, he’s got a larger-than-life personality, and we love him dearly. He’s our best little buddy, and we couldn’t imagine our lives without him.
